If your heart rate is not appearing during a workout player session, the most common cause is a Bluetooth connection conflict between your heart rate strap and another device.
Why this happens
When your Garmin or Wahoo connects to the heart rate strap first, the JOIN workout player is unable to establish its own connection and will not receive any heart rate data during the session. This is a Bluetooth limitation rather than a JOIN specific issue.
How to fix it
- Disconnect your HR strap from other devices
- Before starting a workout in the JOIN workout player, disconnect your heart rate strap from your Garmin, Wahoo or any other device. This frees up the Bluetooth connection so the workout player can pair with it exclusively.
- Connect the strap in the JOIN workout player
- Open the workout player and connect your heart rate strap from within the app before starting the session.
What if I do not have a power meter?
If you do not have a power meter, you can still capture your session in JOIN in two ways:
- Manual entry — Add a manual activity after the ride with the duration and any relevant details.
- RPE feedback — Provide an RPE score after the session. JOIN will use this to understand how the session felt and adapt your plan accordingly, even without power or heart rate data.
Does missing heart rate affect my training?
If you have a power meter, your power data will still be recorded correctly by the workout player even without heart rate. Power is the primary metric JOIN uses for zone targeting and workout analysis, so your session will still be fully captured and your workout score will reflect your actual effort.
